Tickets are officially on sale to re-enter the Grid and see Tron: Ares on the big screen. Just over one month remains until Disney's sci-fi franchise speeds back into theaters on a light cycle, 15 years after the Garrett Hedlund-led Tron: Legacy graced the public conscience and over four decades after Jeff Bridges was first sucked into the software world. To celebrate, Alamo Drafthouse is ensuring fans have everything they need to stay hydrated with their drink of choice during the action. Collider can share an exclusive look at a new limited-edition pint glass coming from the specialty theater chain that is available to pre-order while supplies last as a ticket add-on at any Drafthouse location in the U.S.
The Drafthouse-exclusive Tron: Ares pint glass is designed by Chris Bilheimer as a unique collector's item for fans of the franchise and, especially, the iconic lightcycle, one of cinema's most unique and influential vehicles. Printed on the outside is an image of Jared Leto's titular AI Ares with his helmet on as he speeds by a local Alamo Drafthouse location, with his bike leaving a streak of red light behind it. It's a fitting commemoration of the film, which sees the super-intelligent program bring the Grid to our world, blurring the line between reality and the digital for the first time. Attendees at the theater chain known for their dinner and drink offerings can pick up their glass before the screening and bring it home as a 16-ounce keepsake from the occasion.
What Is 'Tron: Ares' About?
A direct sequel to Legacy, Tron: Ares finally restarts the franchise under director Joachim Rønning after a decade of trying to get everything up and running again following the previous film's $409.9 million box office haul. The film follows the sophisticated and likely sinister Ares as it crosses over to the real world on a dangerous and mysterious mission that could disrupt the balance of both realities. His ambitions will put the program on a collision course with the original gridmaster that started it all, Kevin Flynn (Bridges), as well as a cavalcade of new characters plugging in for the first time. That includes the likes of Greta Lee, Evan Peters, Hasan Minhaj, Jodie Turner-Smith, Arturo Castro, Cameron Monaghan, and Sarah Desjardins. Rounding the package together is a new soundtrack made by Nine Inch Nails to capture the unique sci-fi feel of the franchise after Wendy Carlos and Daft Punk in the past films.
The return of Tron is the latest big event for Alamo Drafthouse, coming off a summer that has been defined by massive releases. Earlier this year, the chain introduced a Superman-themed menu celebrating James Gunn's take on the Man of Steel with pizzas, chicken wraps, drinks, and more. Among its upcoming special screenings capping off the season is a Rolling Roadshow gala screening designed to whisk viewers into the high-society world of Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale, with an English dinner and cocktails, along with guided tours and more at the historic Virginia Robinson Gardens & Estate in Beverly Hills. The chain has been a favorite of cinema-goers for its unique film-watching and dining experience and the special goodies that come with it, and it looks to dazzle again with its exclusive Ares giveaway.
Tron: Ares releases nationwide on October 10. Check out the design in the gallery above and visit the official Alamo Drafthouse website to secure your tickets and exclusive pint glass before it's too late.
